College Planning & Placement

The college process can be very stressful. Therefore, it is vital that students and their families feel that they have a college advisor that they can trust to support them every step of the way.

Whether it is to respond to a nervous phone call or late-night emails, review an essay one last time before submission, or answer last-minute questions…no concern is considered insignificant or too small!

Previous clients have told me that what makes me stand apart from other consultants is that I will go above and beyond what is typical. I take the time necessary to really get to know the students with whom I work so that I can best guide them towards a college community that will be the right fit. The relationships that I build with my students have also enabled me to help them to put their best foot forward in the college process.

As a consultant, I am committed to making this experience as seamless as possible and am here to provide supportive guidance whenever needed.

As part of the college planning process, I offer a comprehensive package starting from the exploration phase to a student’s final college placement.

My services can also include one part of the process. For example, academic planning, brainstorming for college essays and revision, waitlist and deferral strategies, interview skills training, and evaluating college acceptances.

Academic Planning & Support

As a school counselor, I am a strong student advocate. I have first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of schools and the resources available to meet a student’s needs and/or learning challenges. I have worked closely with teachers, administrators, and outside agencies/individuals to develop individualized plans to support academic success.

During the academic planning process, we will discuss and explore educational and career goals, review graduation and course selection, standardized testing requirements, and lay out a solid plan that will prepare for a successful route to college and/or career.

Furthermore, if your child is struggling in any way academically, I can help problem solve, come up with interventions and strategies or provide referral services.

Workshops

I offer a variety of workshops to support both students and their families. In our rapidly changing global world, students need to develop skills to foster their academic success and social-emotional growth. Workshops offered will support students through the college planning and placement process and help students learn more about themselves and how to manage difficult situations.

Social / Emotional Support

As a school counselor, I have worked with students individually, remotely, and in large and small groups. Adolescence is a time of stress and uncertainty, changing relationships, friendships, and identity development.

I earned a double master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University and have specialized training in several disciplines, including multicultural counseling, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) - Steps A and mediation.

I have worked to support students through crisis management, mediation, post-traumatic stress, dealing with the loss of a loved one, anxiety and school avoidance, change in family circumstances, conflict in relationships, and acculturation issues in first-generation students. I am experienced working with different agencies, individuals, and county services to meet my students' needs best.

I offer referral services and short-term solution-focused counseling. I often serve as the first line of defense and bridge the gap if a student needs additional long-term support.

My philosophy is to be a supportive guide to lessen the stress and anxiety associated with academics and college planning and placement.
